Daniel Hernandez began his role as an estimator at EGR in October 2016. Prior to EGR, Daniel worked as a Branch Director at the YMCA for many years before switching careers. As one of our top estimators, Daniel is all about wins – both for his beloved Chelsea FC and EGR projects.
Describe your day to day role as an estimator:
I review future project drawings and estimate a cost to perform the work. My day-to-day consists of working on pricing multiple jobs and also includes follow-up on jobs that I’ve already priced.
What has been your favorite project to date and why?
My favorite project so far has been the Covenant Health New West Tower that we will be working on starting in late 2020. It was a project that I did multiple budget pricings for and I got to work with a contractor (JE Dunn-Dallas) that valued our input and wanted us to do the job from the beginning. It took a long time and a lot of work but paid off in the end in a large win for EGR.
What is your biggest challenge on any given job?
The biggest challenge, for me, isn’t necessarily job related but has to do with pricing each project with a desire to win the job but not to do so in a way that may hurt EGR. We hate losing jobs, but we also want to win jobs that not only provide the shop with work, but also allows EGR to keep growing.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
Sports, video games, and reading.
What’s the most gratifying part of the job?
That’s easy – winning a job!
